Counseling and psychotherapy for individuals

Hi! I'm Megan.

About Me

I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor serving Wilmington, NC and surrounding areas. I am local to Wilmington, born and raised!  After attending undergraduate school at UNCW I traveled to Webster University in Charleston, SC for graduate school.

I am married and have two adopted children.  Life has definitely thrown curve balls in my direction like most of us.  Both life experiences and education have led me to the counseling field.  I am very passionate about what I do, and would love to walk beside you on your journey.

What is Counseling?

Counseling is an open opportunity for individuals to share, express, and identify thoughts and feelings. It is also a safe place to confront problems in our lives and access skills to help us navigate through these times.  Very often counseling is used to help balance the overwhelming feelings life can bring.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

DBT therapy is a style of therapy created by Marsha Linehan, Ph.D that leans heavily on the belief that two opposing ideas can be held at the same time.  It is also a technique-based therapy that involves the teaching of certain skills as the foundation of moving forward into a healthier mindset.  DBT is a great style of therapy for all mental health disorders including  Depression, Anxiety, Personality Disorders, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

LGBTQ+

Working with the LGBTQ population is a passion of mine. Very often underserved, I feel honored to assist this community. Using a solution-focused mindset we can focus directly on making life better here and now, setting goals that work for you, and empowering you to greatness. I work closely with Duke Hospital in Durham, NC aside individuals on their gender transition journeys.

Treatment for Anxiety and Depression

Believe it or not anxiety and depression very often go hand-in-hand.  Sometimes anxious thoughts cause depressive symptoms, and sometimes depressive thoughts cause anxious symptoms.  They are difficult to tease apart and often cause a lot of distress.  These are the two most common diagnoses in mental health which many, many people struggle with.  If you are struggling with either of these, we can work together to create an empowered life for you where you feel more in charge and in control of your thoughts/feelings.

Let's Talk

The first step in therapy is talking. Let's work together to talk about what's on your mind, your goals for treatment, and what you feel needs to be different.
